How to Use the Leaders' Guide to Developing the Business Case for Planned Care

To Access Change Concept Toolkits and Resources

May 4, 2006

To assist health center leaders with the transformation of their organizations and development of their business case, the faculty of the Finance and Redesign Pilot has developed a Leaders' Guide to Developing the Business Case for Planned Care . The Leaders' Guide document includes a framework and guidance that health center leaders and staff can use in their efforts to drive their business case. Also included in the Leaders' Guide are a series of Toolkits that include the high leverage change concepts that have evolved from the work of the pilot. These Toolkits in turn include resources and specific tools that can also be easily accessed through links to the HDC website Library. The Leaders' Guide also includes many hyperlinks within the references sections to useful resources on external websites.

We suggest the following first steps for Health Centers or others interested in the Business Case/Redesign Toolkits, information and resources:

1.  Go to the Health Disparities Collaboratives website at www.HealthDisparities.net , and under Collaboratives on the main horizontal menu select HDC Topics . In the 'HDC Topics' menu box on the right side of the page, click on 'Business Case/Redesign'.

2.  Read through the HDC Topics background information, and then download the Leaders' Guide by clicking on one of the hyperlinks lower down on the page. You can also click on any of the hyperlinks under High Leverage Change Concepts to go directly to the main areas of the Library that hold the Business Case/Redesign Toolkit materials.

3.  Use the Leaders' Guide as an organizing framework and as a "portal to all related materials. The Leaders' Guide contains links to folders in the HDC website Library that hold over 100 tools and resources related to the Business Case/Redesign (and growing!). The references sections within the Leaders' Guide also include many direct hyperlinks to tools and resources external to the HDC site.

A Bibliography listing references related to the Business Case for Planned Care is also available, and includes even more additional references and links to useful websites.

Any or all of these resources, the Leaders' Guide , the HDC Topics page , and the Bibliography , can be used as a "portal or "hub to access related materials by following the links to resources posted in the HDC website Library or to resources external to the HDC website. The Leaders' Guide , however, provides the most comprehensive framework and detailed information about the resources available.
